About

How Bench is built

Bench gathers every Project Farm product test into one searchable catalog: what was tested, how each product finished, and where to buy the winners. Almost all of it is assembled automatically, straight from the videos, on a line that runs every night.

The nightly line

  1. 01

    Watch

New uploads are spotted on the channel. The products and links come straight from the description.

  2. 02

    Listen

Todd's voice becomes text, from YouTube's captions or our own transcription.

  3. 03

    Read

An AI model finds the ranking, the best value and the ones to avoid, in his own words.

  4. 04

    Check

His on-screen charts and summary table are read too, and the ranking is checked against them.

  5. 05

    Publish

The catalog is rebuilt and published as a fast, static website, ready by morning.

Where the data comes from

Every video's description already lists the brands tested and a link to each one, so the product list and the Amazon links come straight from what Todd published.

The rankings take more work. Todd announces the results out loud, so we turn each video's audio into text, sometimes using the captions YouTube generates and sometimes transcribing it ourselves. An AI model then reads that text to pick out the overall ranking, the best-value pick and anything he warns against, along with the exact words he used. Where a video shows his results charts and summary table, those are read too and used to check the ranking.

Videos are sorted into categories and each product into its brand, including where the brand is based and, when Todd says so, where the product is made.

Why you might spot a mistake

Turning speech into text is an automated technique, and it isn't perfect. Brand names are the usual casualty: an unfamiliar name can come out as a different word, or even as another brand in the same test. Here's a real one, from a step bit test:

1186s “And the Team MilwaukeeTemo came in on top with the best average finish at 1.5.”

Summary table · TEMO · avg finish 1.5matched ✓

We check rankings against Todd's own charts wherever we can, but some errors can still get through. The video is always the final word, and every result here links back to it.

Weekly

Keeping links honest

Every product link is checked each week. When a listing is discontinued or reused for a different product, it's flagged on the product and listed under listings that changed.

Nightly

Hosting

A small computer runs the line overnight and publishes the result as a static website on Hoster, a self-hosting platform David created. There's no server work when you load a page, so it stays quick no matter how many people visit.
